Hamel (2012) ‘Teaching with trailers: The pedagogical value of previews for introducing film analysis’, Journal of Film and Video, 64(4), p. 38
Having confirmed a fear of students failing the lesson of analysing film style, Hamel suggests that the problem stems from his teaching method. Based on material from books, Hamel’s research led him to an extensive amount of results. This text demonstrates how teaching with trailers provides a better learning experience when trying to distinguish “parts” of a film from the “whole”. As performance amongst student improved, so did Hamel’s persistence in showing more trailers in his lessons. I find this article useful for my research because it validates how adopting new learning techniques can improve organisational structure.
